Courage is the choice and willingness to confront agony, pain, danger, uncertainty, or intimidation in your life.  We have all heard at some point of our lives the importance of being brave and having courage.  The courage to act when needed, to speak our minds, to achieve our goals, to let our voices be heard, as well the courage needed to make a true difference in order to succeed.

Courage however is much more powerful that just actions.  Having the courage to speak can be powerful enough to change a life, a situation or even the course of history.  It is something that everybody wants — an attribute of good character that makes us worthy of respect. From the Bible to fairy tales; ancient myths to Hollywood movies, our culture is rich with exemplary tales of bravery and self-sacrifice for the greater good. From the cowardly lion in The Wizard of Oz who finds the courage to face the witch, to David battling Goliath in the Bible, to Star Wars and Harry Potter, children are raised on a diet of heroic and inspirational tales of courage since early on in their lives.

Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without it you can't practice any other virtue consistently!

Yet courage is not just physical bravery. History books tell colorful tales of social activists, such as Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela, who chose to speak out against injustice at great personal risk with the goal of being successful. Entrepreneurs such as Steve Jobs and Walt Disney, who took financial risks to follow their dreams and innovate are like modern-day knights, showing the rewards and public accolades that courage can bring. There are different types of courage, ranging from physical  strength and endurance to mental stamina and innovation.

We don’t really need to go into detail and mention all the times we have acted with courage on personal situations to get to where we currently are because the list would be never-ending.  We do however want to point out that each time you acted with courage in the past, even if unknowingly, you were able to overcome certain obstacles and that if you are standing here today it is because you had the courage that led you to victory.
